Our first race saw us take on the the Arrowpak Euro Saloons Championship at our home circuit Brands Hatch.
Our main aims for this weekend were for Alex to have some more time behind the wheel of the car and to get back into the groove of competitive racing.
Alex qualified a respectable 8th out of 26 in his first competitive event for 6 years. Race 1 was to take place on Saturday evening, unfortunately after 4 laps the race was red flagged due to two competitors having a heavy crash on the start/finish straight. Due to time restraints, this race was not able to be re-run.
Sunday saw us on the grid for Race 2, Alex was running well in 8th and gaining quickly on the next four cars in front. Half way into the race Alex and three other cars tried to go four abreast into the tight Druids hairpin with Alex on the inside. Alex had to brake hard to avoid a heavy coming together with the Supertourer Nissan Primera of Richard Hawken, this caused the brakes to lock, he glanced the side of the Primera and ended up in the gravel trap on the outside of the hairpin. This was the end of the race for us, as the Holden was stuck in the gravel trap.
Overall not a bad weekend for our first race but not a great one either. We are now looking forward to our second race weekend of the season with the Eurosaloons at Rockingham on the 30th of June and 1st of July.
