There is a saying that motorsport is 90% dissapointment and that was certainly true with our first outing of the year.

Our first race meeting of 2014 was with the Thunder Saloons at a very busy Donington Park.

Qualifying up first and Alex was sent out on fresh slicks, so set to work scrubbing them in, but just as he started to go for some times there was a funny noise coming from the car.  Upon returning to the pits this was found to be from an air jack that had dropped down, which we think worked its way lose after some kerb hopping. Unfortunately by the time we had sorted this issue qualifying was over, which meant we never got to post a quick time leaving us in 8th for race 1.

After some very changable weather conditions consisting of rain, hail and sun, race 1 was to take place on a track which was greasy, damp and still wet in places. Not wet enough for full wets, slicks were the only option.

On the warm up lap and into the first few corners of the race it was clear to see it was going to be a fight just to stay on the track and that the four wheel drive cars were certainly going to have the upper hand. The race was pretty uneventful and we finished 8th, where we started, which considering the conditions wasn't the end of the world.

Race 2 and we were starting in 8th again, albeit on a much smaller grid of cars due to several cars pulling out due to technical issues.

Alex made up several places when the lights went green and was up to third into the first corner but before they could even get part way through the first corner he was hit in the right rear wheel and sent spinning into the gravel. By the time the Holden got going again, too much time was lost and the race was effectivly over. With no way catching the front runners we finished in 8th again.

Certainly a weekend to forget, but things can only get better?
